Have you ever been in a situation where you had no idea how you were going to complete the task in front of you? Maybe it was with work or school, or even something at home. What about a situation where you had no idea how you were going to complete the task, but you know God has called you to complete it? You feel like you don’t know where to start, or how you will ever finish. In situations like these, we need to trust that if God has called us to do something he will give us the knowledge, skills, and abilities to complete that work.
I felt led to write about this specific topic because of the new job I just started. Any of you who have been following along on my journey know that I was recently at a job that was extremely difficult for me, and then I was let go. I have now returned to the company I worked at prior to that job in a completely new role. The role I am now in is a step up from where I have been before. Along with that, it is a new program they are launching, so a lot of the details are unclear on what the structure of the program will be, as well as my role not being clearly defined. I think that when I first started, I assumed that because I had worked for the company before, that I should be able to hit the ground running and not need any kind of adjustment period. I did start to freak out when I realized that there was no clear structure, and that I might have more responsibility in this new role than I expected to. I started to pray and say things like, “Lord, I know you blessed me with this job, but how am I supposed to do this? I don’t know if I can. I have no idea where to start. How is this all going to work?”
And then I felt the Lord lay something very specific on my heart:
“It’s not about what you can do, it’s about what I, God, can do”.
I stopped in that moment and realized what the Lord was trying to share with me. In these moments he will give you the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do anything he has called you to do. “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:13). Don’t think that it is all dependent on what you think you can do. God can do great and mighty things through you if you give him the authority over your life to do so. “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Philippians 1:6). If you give him the access and let him work, you will see great and wonderful things happen in your life.
We need to have confidence that God has placed us exactly where he wants us to be in this life. If we are willingly obedient to him, he will guide our lives and build them up into exactly what he wants for us, even with the bumps along the way. Every bump, every twist, and every turn brings us closer to the person God has called us to be. Trust that if the Lord has put you in a situation that you are unsure about how to handle, that he will enlighten you with what you need to handle the situation with a godly attitude and perspective. It might not always be easy, and this doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes along the way, but if you are confident in the abilities God can give you there is nothing you can’t accomplish!
“May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce on you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him…” (Hebrews 13:21).
