When you think of someone who has power, what do you think of? A superhero? The CEO of a Fortune 500 company? For these individuals, power has its limitations. They are not able to accomplish anything and everything, as much as Marvel may want us to think that they can. When I think of true power, I think of our God. God has the power to break every chain. He has the power over fear and anxiety. He has the power over EVERYTHING. There is nothing out of reach of his power.
I am going through a time in my life right now where there is a lot of change going on. I am starting a new job, getting married, and looking for my first home. With all those changes comes a lot of anxiety and fear about leaving your comfort zone and all the things that have become normal in your life. Since I have been experiencing anxiety and fear during this time, I am trying to really lean into the power of God to break those chains and to fill me with his peace. I know God has more power than my fear. “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). I know that through all these changes, God is accomplishing something great in my life, and setting me on the path that he wants for me. I don’t have to be afraid, because I know that God has the power to release me from it and the power over it.
The power of our God can be seen in our everyday lives. From the sun in the sky and all the beautiful natural creation around us, to the breaking of addictions and the chains that keep us bound to sin. God has power over the smallest and the largest thing you could imagine. “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the right place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:19-20). And did you know, that we have that same power living inside of us through the Holy Spirit? “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death” (Romans 8:2). There is nothing in all creation that has more power than our God. He has the ultimate power and authority over everything on earth and in heaven.
Are you struggling right now with something that you feel is outside of your power to control, or something that is causing you a lot of fear or anxiety? Lean wholeheartedly into the power of our God. There is nothing that the power of God can’t break down. Even when we create walls in our hearts, God can break them down with the power of the Holy Spirit, and fill us with his joy and peace. The peace of the Lord is waiting for you if you accept that he has the power to break whatever is holding you back from him today.
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10).
