Thank you, Jesus!

I think Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday for many people (too early to talk about, I know but it will be here before you know it!). And why not? There is a ton of really good food and time spent with those we love. One of my favorite things to do on Thanksgiving is to truly reflect on the year that has passed, and talk to God about how thankful I am for him and all that he provided to me. It really humbles my heart and causes me to put on an attitude of thankfulness.

One thing I think we really struggle with as humans is being grateful for what we have been given. It can be tough sometimes to not take advantage of the things we do have, and then complaining about what we don’t. However, in Christ we are called to be thankful everyday in everything we do. “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17). God has blessed us in so many wonderful ways, and the best first response we can have is one of thankfulness.

Christ didn’t have to come down to this earth. He didn’t have to live a human life. He didn’t have to give himself up to the cross for each of us. He didn’t have to do any of those things, yet in his love for us chose to do them anyways. How could you not fall on your knees and just say, “Thank you, Jesus!”. He has done everything to deserve our gratitude. Each day that we wake up is another blessing and another reason to be thankful. We should be thankful for our family, friends, homes, schools/works, clothes, food, so forth and so on.

When I sit to pray to thank Jesus for all he has done, it can be so hard to find the words to say. He has blessed me so much in so many ways. Past and present he has provided for me, and I know he will provide in the future. So how do you put all of that into words? I usually just have to sit there and say, “Thank you, Jesus..for everything”, because it would take me a lifetime and more to list off everything I am thankful for. He truly deserves our lives dedicated to him for all the wonderful things he has done for us.

Are you thankful for all the God has done for you? Have you taken time lately to thank him? Pray to him and tell him about everything that you are thankful for, and how thankful you are for his blessings and provision. Thank him for Christ’s selfless sacrifice.

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
