Who is at the Center of your Universe?

Which kind of person are you: the kind that loves being the center of attention or the one who would do anything to avoid it? I am typically the person who tries to avoid being the center of attention at all costs. I have always tried to blend in and not stand out. I never enjoyed being different. I think part of that is a fear of being rejected for being different than everyone else, and a fear of it being all about you.

I had a lot of fears as I started this blog for the exact reason above, I didn’t want to be the center of attention. I didn’t want to feel as if everyone was looking at me and judging my work. Fear that I would get criticized for doing this in the first place and that I should have just not have even tried. I think these are common fears for a lot of people. My whole life I have allowed fear to stop me from doing what I loved doing or trying something new. I am extremely comfortable with routine (to a fault sometimes, I do admit). I don’t want this experience to be one of those things.

More importantly, when I was praying about all these fears about starting this blog, something significant hit me. God called me to start writing this blog for Him, not for me! And that means that HE is supposed to be the center of attention, not me! “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2). With that shift in perspective every fear is stripped of its power. I now view this blog as a way for God to speak through me to a world that needs him, and not a way for me to be the center of attention. It has always been all about him. He not only should be at the center of your universe, he deserves to be the center of your universe. He has proven himself worthy of being praised for all he has done throughout time for those who love him, and with the ultimate act of love through the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ.

If I am putting myself at the center, I miss the whole point. I miss the goal of the Christian life. I need to remove myself from the throne of my heart and allow God to take his rightful place in my life. That is when we truly see how much more he deserves to be there than we do. We are not good kings. We are not good rulers of our own lives. We don’t always know what is best for us (even when we think we do), but God does. He has perfect knowledge of everything and knows exactly what you need to do to follow in the path he has set for you and the way he wants you to bring him glory. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28).

Who is at the center of your universe? If it is you, are you happy with the way your life is moving? Let me encourage you to give it over to Jesus and let him rule. I know you will see a difference.

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17)

That you Chelsea. Great thoughts. As I read this I was thinking either I am at the center of my universe...or I AM is (Exodus 3:13-15)...and the difference between the two is life & death. Keep writing!
